Can you take Wegovy a day early? Yes – as long as enough time has passed since your last dose. Here's what the official guidance says.

Wegovy is a once-weekly injection. Ideally, you'll take it on the same day each week – but life doesn't always fit neatly around an injection schedule.

Perhaps you're going away for the weekend, have a busy day coming up or simply want to move your regular injection day.

So, can you take Wegovy a day early?

Yes. According to the official Wegovy patient information, you can change your weekly injection day as long as at least three days have passed since your last dose.¹

The literature for medical professionals gives the same advice. It says you can change your dosing day as long as more than 72 hours have passed since your last dose.²

That means taking your usual weekly dose one day early is generally fine.

How does changing your Wegovy injection day work?

Let's say you normally take Wegovy every Sunday but want to move your injection to Saturday.

Your previous dose was six days ago, so you're comfortably outside the 72-hour minimum interval. You can take your dose on Saturday and then continue taking Wegovy once a week on your new injection day.

And remember that you can take Wegovy at any time of day, with or without food.¹ So, if you're only changing the time of your injection – from Sunday morning to Sunday evening, for example – you needn't worry about the three-day rule.

Why do I need to leave at least three days between doses?

Wegovy contains semaglutide, a long-acting medication designed to remain active in your body between weekly doses.

Taking doses too close together could mean you have more medication in your system than you're meant to. This could increase your risk of side effects – particularly gastrointestinal problems such as nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea.

That's why you shouldn't simply bring your injection forward by several days without checking the dosing instructions.

If fewer than three days have passed since your previous injection, wait rather than taking another dose early.

What if I've missed my Wegovy injection?

Picture of a weekly planner.

Moving a dose early and missing a dose are slightly different situations.

According to the Wegovy patient leaflet:¹

  • If it's five days or less since your missed dose was due, take it as soon as you remember. Then take your next dose on your usual scheduled day.

  • If it's been more than five days, skip the missed dose and take your next injection on your usual day.

  • You shouldn't take a double dose to make up for a missed injection.

If you've missed several doses, speak to your healthcare provider before restarting treatment.

Check the official Wegovy information

For questions about injection timing, missed doses or how to use your Wegovy pen, the official patient information leaflet should always be your first call.

It's produced specifically for the medicine you're taking and contains the current instructions approved for UK patients. You'll find a copy inside your Wegovy pack, and the latest version is also available online through the Electronic Medicines Compendium (emc).

If you're still unsure about when to take your next dose, don't guess. Ask your prescriber, pharmacist or another healthcare professional for advice.
