Where to buy Wegovy safely: a patients' guide
Unscrupulous and unregulated Wegovy sellers are everywhere. Learn the risks and how to keep yourself safe.

Buying Wegovy online shouldn't feel like a gamble. But it often is.
This revolutionary weight loss medication is now readily available from trusted private suppliers. Certain people can also access it on the NHS. However, despite this ease of access, knock-off injections and dodgy suppliers run rife. So much so, in fact, that organisations like the WHO, the MHRA and Wegovy's manufacturer, Novo Nordisk, have issued public warnings against them.¹ ² ³
Clearly, plenty of people are purchasing Wegovy from unlicensed sources – and it's not necessarily their fault. After all, it's difficult to make an informed decision when you don't have the full facts. And some of these dodgy suppliers make promises that, while impossible to back up, also feel impossible to resist.
However, it's important to stay vigilant and stay informed. Buying illegal Wegovy can have grave consequences for your health, as well as your wallet.
This guide shows you where to buy Wegovy online without being caught out by scams and shady suppliers. We start by looking at the risks of buying unregulated Wegovy and then share tips to help you find a safe and regulated supplier.
The risks of buying Wegovy from illegitimate suppliers
Fakes and compounded medications
Non-branded Wegovy falls into two main categories: compounded medications and outright fakes. Both come with risks attached.
Compounded Wegovy is made by third-party pharmacies, not the official manufacturer. It may be made using a non-standard recipe. It might contain a different (and untested) form of the active ingredient semaglutide. And while official Wegovy pens contain pre-measured doses, compounded Wegovy often needs to be manually measured and injected from vials.
Crucially, compounded medications are not regulated in the same way as branded (licensed) medications. All this can add up to more risk for you, the user.
Fake Wegovy, meanwhile, is an illegal, black-market product. It's completely unregulated and very dangerous. Counterfeit Wegovy may contain inaccurate doses, a different active ingredient (such as insulin) or harmful chemicals. In short, you never know what you're getting – and the risks can be life-threatening.
Lack of medical oversight
Wegovy is prescription-only for a reason. The medication is only licensed to treat certain people who meet certain criteria.
That's why you must have a medical consultation before you can get a prescription. It's to make sure you meet the criteria and it's safe for you to take the drug.
Dodgy Wegovy sellers often promise to sell Wegovy without a prescription. This is illegal and puts your health at risk. If you take Wegovy when you don't meet the criteria for treatment, you risk experiencing heightened side effects, dangerous drug interactions and more.

But the importance of medical oversight goes beyond the prescription. It's crucial to get the right support and supervision throughout your treatment journey, too. This way, you'll have experts on hand to help you manage dosages, deal with side effects and know what to do if things don't quite go to plan.
Needless to say, you can't expect this kind of support from an unregulated seller.
Financial scams
It happens. Scammers might promise to send you Wegovy but take your cash and run instead.
If you're lucky, this could be a blessing in disguise. Your wallet has suffered, but at least you're safe from the dangers of counterfeit medication.
If you're unlucky, you could find yourself the victim of identity theft or financial fraud. And that's a whole other kettle of complications.
How to buy Wegovy safely
1. Watch out for red flags
It's not always easy to spot an illegitimate Wegovy supplier. Some appear more trustworthy than others.
However, dodgy suppliers tend to engage in certain patterns and behaviours that you'll never see from a legitimate clinic or pharmacy. If you spot any of these red flags, you should be very cautious indeed.
No prescription requirement
This is the big one.
See, Wegovy is a prescription-only drug – and it should only be prescribed by a medical professional after an online or face-to-face consultation.
If anyone promises to supply Wegovy without a prescription, you can bet that they don't follow regulations and don't have your best interests in mind.
False or misleading promises
Wegovy is effective for weight loss – but it's not a magic wand. To see the best results, you must still eat a healthy, balanced diet, maintain a calorie deficit and exercise regularly.
Illegitimate suppliers often promise rapid weight loss, but conveniently leave out the parts about exercising and eating healthily. Remember: if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.
Very low prices
Illegal Wegovy suppliers often try to attract customers using enticing offers and unreasonably low prices.
Don't let yourself be blinded by pound signs. These offers almost always indicate that you're not getting the real deal.
Selling through social media
It's perfectly OK for a Wegovy supplier to have a social media page. But they shouldn't sell their products through platforms like Facebook, TikTok or Instagram.
If you can only buy through social media and can't find a legitimate website, protect your health and take your business elsewhere.
Dodgy-looking or insecure websites
Even legitimate suppliers make occasional mistakes. But if a website is riddled with spelling mistakes and grammar errors, you should be very wary.

Check security credentials, too. You should only send payment through trusted sources with secured (HTTPS) web portals. Requests for cash, bank transfers or money sent through digital wallet apps are major red flags.
2. Review your supplier's registrations
Legitimate Wegovy suppliers should be registered with certain official regulators. In the UK, there are two main regulators to look out for:
- The General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC):
this is the regulator for pharmacies and pharmacists in the UK. Your supplier should list a 7-digit GPhC registration number on its website. This shows that the supplier uses fully qualified pharmacists and abides by the GPhC's care and safety standards.
- The Care Quality Commission (CQC): this is the regulator for health and adult social care in the UK. It makes sure care providers deliver safe and effective care to their service users. That includes hospitals, care homes and GPs, as well as online care providers like SemaPen. To find out if a supplier is registered, look for a 10-digit CQC Location ID on its website.
If in doubt, double-check the registration numbers using the
GPhC's register search and the
CQC's care service search tool.
3. Make sure you're getting the right support
In the key Wegovy clinical trial, participants lost an average of 15% of their body weight when taking the medication over 68 weeks.⁴
That's an impressive result. But there's an important point that people often miss. Those trial participants had expert guidance on hand to help them improve their diet and lifestyle.
This expert support is crucial because Wegovy doesn't just work. As with any weight loss treatment, you must eat a calorie-controlled diet and engage in regular physical activity to achieve the best results.
Plus, with proper medical oversight, you're better equipped to manage side effects and find the best dose for your unique needs.
Unfortunately, this kind of wraparound support is often lacking – even from established, registered pharmacies. Many do little more than send you the medication and let you figure things out on your own.
At SemaPen, however, we do things differently. We keep expert support at the core of our Wegovy programme because we know how crucial it is to long-term success.
