When should you start feeling the effects of Mounjaro? And how long until you start losing weight? Get the answers in our quick guide.

Maybe you've just begun your Mounjaro weight loss journey. Or perhaps you've heard good things about this weekly weight loss injection and want to find out more.

In any case, you're in the right place. As part of Phoenix Health, SemaPen has delivered clinically proven weight loss treatments for more than 20 years. And with our expert-led Wegovy and Mounjaro programmes, we're helping more people than ever lose weight safely and effectively.

As you might imagine, we get a lot of questions from people like you. And one of the most common questions we're asked about Mounjaro is 'How long does it take to work?'

The short answer is that it's different for everyone. Factors like your diet, your starting weight and your physical activity level can all change how quickly Mounjaro works.

And then there's the simple fact that we all respond to drugs differently. So, while one person might notice results after a few weeks, it could take longer for somebody else.

That said, let's look at a typical weight loss journey with Mounjaro. Your own journey might be different, but it should give you a good idea of what to expect.

When does Mounjaro start working?

Technically speaking, Mounjaro starts working almost straight away.

Mounjaro is designed to be absorbed slowly into the bloodstream. That's why you only need to take one injection each week.

However, it only takes a few hours for the medication to start having an effect. It's working – but you might not notice it just yet.

When will I start feeling the effects of Mounjaro?

Most people start feeling the effects of Mounjaro within one or two days. You might experience:

  • Reduced appetite: Mounjaro mimics natural hormones that tell our bodies when we're full. For most people, that means a reduced appetite and feeling fuller after eating less.
  • Fewer snack cravings: Mounjaro also helps balance blood sugar levels. This means you're less likely to crave sugary or high-calorie snacks.
  • Side effects: as with any medication, Mounjaro can cause unwanted side effects. Some of the most common include nausea (feeling sick), vomiting (being sick) and stomach problems like constipation and diarrhoea.

When you first take Mounjaro, you'll probably notice that your appetite comes back after a few days. That's because it takes time for your body to adjust to the medication.

The good news is that the side effects tend to get better as your body adjusts, too.

When will I start noticing weight loss on Mounjaro?

This is what most people mean when they ask, 'How quickly does Mounjaro work?'

After all, you're taking Mounjaro to lose weight. And it's easier to celebrate that weight loss when you can see it happening in front of your eyes.

Again, it's different for everyone. But generally speaking, people tend to notice visible weight loss by around month two or three  of their treatment.

Here's a breakdown of a typical Mounjaro weight loss journey:

  • By the end of month 1, you might have lost a few pounds, but you probably won't notice much visible weight loss. Keep going – your body is still getting used to the medication.

  • By month 3, you should expect to have lost around 8-10% of your starting body weight. You'll probably notice visible results, and others might too.²

  • By month 5, you should have lost around 15% of your weight.²

  • Month 6 onwards: if you've followed the dosage schedule, you'll now be at the maximum dose of Mounjaro. On average, people lose around 21% of their body weight by this stage.¹ You'll certainly have noticed changes to your appearance, and you'll likely feel healthier and more energised. Well done!
